All learning happens through the senses, which act as pathways to the brain. These are the primary pathways to a child’s brain:
- Auditory – through the sense of hearing
- Visual – through the sense of sight
- Tactile – through the sense of touch
- Kinesthetic – through body movement
So kids learn in many different ways. A true multisensory lesson will engage students on all these levels at one time. Multisensory lessons are so impactful because no matter the learning strength of each child (be it auditory, visual, tactile, or kinesthetic) a multisensory lesson will target the learning strengths of all students at one time. Look at this article by Amanda Morin which explains in more detail how it works.
